SAN DIEGO (AP) Fire officials say 500 homes and 100 businesses have
been destroyed by a wildfire in San Diego County.
Damn, man. Best of luck to all in the region.
Re: California Fire
Yeah those fires look pretty bad. I saw a report that due to the average temp going up 1deg. it extends the fire season by 2 months out there.

2 Months extra???
Really, Jefe? 2 months more just because of 1 degree? DAMN! Doesn't really seem possible that a degree could make such a substantial difference.
About an hour ago I noticed that FIVE news channels were simultaneously covering the fire. That thing is RAGING. How do you put out a fire like this?

Re: California Fire
YOu don't. When my fam was in Cali they had a friend who was FD in the mts. I heard some of the most aweful stories about the fires that happened in the desert mts 20 some-odd years ago, but the diff now is that it's happening on the coast, wrong side of the mts.

Re: California Fire
Yeah the show on 60min said the same thing there are a half dozen fires per year now the just try and save as many houses as possible. They had the head of the forest services fire division and he said that what they call mega-fires are completely uncontrollable, some involve several hundred thousand sq. acres each.

Refugees ?
I saw the talking bobble heads on cnn, they want us to believe that the people flee from fire are different than those fleeing a hurricane.

You DO know why...
Well, there are lots of white people in San Diego. And, more importantly, lots of MONEY.
Yeah, sounds very broken record, but yes, this is yet just ANOTHER example of the Bush admin. PROVING to care for the well-off and/or white folks while stickin' it in the poor and/or blacks' asses. Shit, if Bel Aire was on fire, you'd see 100 big-ass choppers dropping fire retardant and evacuating residents... while serving champagne and apologizing for the inconvenience.
Still, I don't care what color or financial condition the victims of this fire are, this is a goddam tragedy. Rich white folks still love the family photo album, the crayon drawings, their pets/livestock and homes (though they can be rebuilt).
